You look so beautiful standing there,
No longer a little girl, it’s so hard to believe
You’re a young lady of sixteen.
It seems like only yesterday when you were only three.
Jumping on my lap, pulling my hair, giving me a book
with the command, Read, Grandma, read!
When your Mom told you that you’d soon be a big sister,
Curiously you said, “does that mean I can boss her”
You were so happy, and jumped for joy, than told
your Mom, that your baby’s name was going to be Alisha.
When Alisha was born and old enough to walk,
you dragged like her around like a doll, you made everyone
understand, that this was your baby, not Mom’s.
But as you grew older, Alisha was a little girl, you
were now a teen. Your Mom would say, “take your
sister with you”, and you pouted "why do I always have to take her with me?!
And when you were fifteen, you told your Mom,
"I need a car". Your Mom said, “sure honey,
after you get a job and have enough money.
You’ll graduate from high school next year,
Making us all so proud, in your cap and gown.
Every year there's something new and so very
special about you.
And on this special day of your life, sixteen candles
upon a cake, we know you'll go far, but for now, birthday
girl, you're so beautiful the way that you are.

A wonderful heartfelt delight for a young lady. I'm still trying to come to terms that our little baby girl is seventeen.
Beautiful poem, very much enjoyed.
