Concerto de Destiny in A - Minor…Parable

"Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." - This poem wasn't based on the quote; it just kind of developed that way, and I liked the effect.

Concerto de Destiny in A - Minor…Parable

Destiny sighed and then set violin to chin

Seemed as though the moon itself glowed beneath her skin

Delicately, the bow whispered across the strings

Each note a butterfly, soaring on borrowed wings

Schools and schools of notes, swimming like ghostly minnows

Wafting in between the aisles, up and down the rows

On and on she played till her predictions were told

How some would suffer bad luck, and others strike gold

Every head tilted just so, captivated

Counting out their transgressions, albeit belated

Hoping beyond hope Karma wouldn’t circle `round

Murmuring something `bout being lost and then found

Some hearts hammered tried and true , gaining their content

Some conceded – the dial on their compass was bent

A select number faced a mirror much too late

Heaven knows they’re goners now, consumed by their fate

The bow slid to a finish; its final quiver

And over the gathering, rippled a shiver

Destiny seemed to regret what she’d had to do

But she’d told them before till her face had turned blue

She scanned the swarm, knowing most would slip before long;

Wheels in their ruts, satisfied to roll with the throng

Yet, she noticed some hopefuls; souls who understood…

If you “Do unto others…” – what comes back is good J

The metaphor is profound and beautiful. I was caught up in the visions of butterflies being released in hope and love lost but also found, if the listener listens. Brilliant and we certainly reap what we sow. Send out peace and love and you're more likely to get it back. Not always unfortunately but mostly. Brilliant. Wove into my soul and held it captive. Liz

I find myself wrapped/rapt in this poem, Sheila. It is such a gracious, soothing way of imparting an exhortation, a beseech: to do so in beautiful music and allow that which is wordless to speak directly to the soul. A fabulous concept, but also so crystal in the way you have written this. The notes are clear and striking yet there is such a delicacy and gentleness embedded in your lines. A very accomplished poem that loses me in its heartbeat. I particularly love the first stanza. xx

It's how you develop this, Sheila, that is quite remarkable...all the way from the wonderful "Schools and schools of notes" through to "...souls who understood..."
For me, this is among your very finest poems.
Yes!

John

....and the rudeness you speak of at the beginning...it's everywhere!

The song and the singer echo what this world has come to. I grew up in a world of unquestioning fear and respect for elders. Some did not deserve it perhaps but it did make my ability to appreciate those who did deserve or earn it a lot easier. I believe there is a time to stand up to someone if they are wrong but to be cursing or disrespectful because it gave them a sense of power is just wrong. Great poetry here Shiela....well done.

a beautiful offering Shelia
& even in the harrowing echo of Karma calling eventually to those
as well as the blessings of Karma to those others too
wisdom comes through just as you close with what I also believe in:
"If you “Do unto others…” – what comes back is good"
Just offering a smile to another returns one...its easier too
This delicate Concerto de Destiny is soulful
