She was holding out for hero....but he was probably married.

She read the book and got into the characters,
leaving behind the everyday life of laundry, bills, work....dullness.
Wishing for a magic carpet to take her away, Calgon.
Looking for a muscled caped crusader to swept her off her feet.

What was the lyrics in that Bonnie Tyler song?
Oh yeah! It would take Superman to sweep her off her feet.
She was holding out for a hero. Hero? No heroes were around.
If there were, they were probably married, gay or ... both.

Sighing she turned her book face down on the bed,
got out from under the covers and took the familiar pathway to the bathroom.
A quick pit stop. A quick shower. A quick brushing of the teeth.
She’d be daring and skip the flossing today. It was Sunday, after all.

Ahhhhh. Sunday. What a glorious day was Sunday.
The one day a week she could stay in bed....doing whatever.
The one day a week, she didn’t cringe when the phone rang.
When it did ring, that is. ~sigh~

After the pit stop, she hesitated. Why take a quick shower?
It “was” Sunday and she didn’t have anywhere she needed to be....
She went to the closet and got out the bubble bath she’d gotten
for Christmas..was it two or three years ago. Unopened and still in
its plastic wrapping. For extra measure, she got out some candles too.

After she had the candles arranged and the tub full of foamy
fluffy and scented bubbles, she dropped her robe and
slowly immersed herself in the heated water.
This felt great! Why didn’t she do this more often?

After the decadent experience of the tub, she dressed.
Instead of jeans or sweats and a tshirt, she put on a dress.
A floating feminine concoction of a dress that she’d gotten for...
you guessed it....Christmas. Was it five or six years ago..

She stopped by a hairstylist in the mall and daringly told the smiling
beautician that she was leaving it up to her what to do with it.
The only thing she knew was that she wanted change.
Boy, did she get it! An hour later, her long mousey blond hair was history.

In return, she had shorter, sexy, deep auburn hair.
Hair that made her green eyes seem more green
and much more mysterious. The look went well
with her floating dream of a dress.

She took her new hairdo out to an expensive restaurant.
She ordered a entree she’d never had and a bottle of
wine that was recommended by one of the magazines she read
every month. Sitting back, she enjoyed her meal and the wine tremendously.

She felt...Free. Alive. Young. Entrancing.
Looking around her, she saw other people
looking at her and smiling indulgently.
Men were looking at her with appreciation.

The waiter was flirting with her, for Goodness Sake!
She smiled and decided to enjoy this rare feeling.
As she finished her dinner, she heard a voice.
A voice she’d not heard in years.

“Sam?”, the voice said in an incredulous tone.
She looked up into the vivid blue eyes of her
school girl crush, Jake Henderson.
Smiling, she said, “Jake, how nice to see you.”

Six months later, she was Mrs. Jake Henderson,
living in another state and wondering what happened
to that bored woman that had only Sundays to look forward to.
Oh yeah, she went out and found that hero. No waiting for her!

I love fairy tales and this is one of the best I've read lately. It only goes to show what we are capable of if we relax and stop being so self-critical.

Good write, and good advice. The only thing missing was the moon shinning on her.

I love it! My husband always gets nervous when I read romance novels. He'll state very firmly: 'I'm not wearing the cowboy hat nor the Scottish kilt tonight!' LIKE he has a choice....

You have to take the bull by the horns in this world Celtic, to get what you want, and more importantly, what you need !
I love the Bonnie Tyler songs, all of them, especially Total Eclipse of the Heart !
This is very inate wisdom, you have to create your own reality in this world !

Sundays are one of my favorite days of the week, especially today, since I am OFF from work at Fire Mountain! AAAHHHH!!! I can RELAX (and perhaps go to breakfast!)! I may even go to church later this evening if I so choose to! (I would LIKE to!) But I have laundry to do as we need clean clothes for work! LOL DARN, no relaxing for ME part of the day! Oh, well....LOL

Well done poem, Silver; enjoyed! Thanks for sharing! :)

True enough. (thank you, Sherry) In my case, it was taking a chance on someone I wouldn't have thought of before as someone I'd be interested in (could be your neighbor, a friend, a friend of a friend, that guy you talk to at the water cooler at work, the postal dude, etc)....a guy I was casual friends with.

Taking chances and doing things just for you sometimes work out wonderously. ;) Silver

And they all lived happily ever after...sigh...Amen! This is a wonderful story/poem, Silver. I enjoyed every line and I became captivated by the progressing tale. There is a lot of wisdom in your words. If we sit around waiting for adventure and happiness to find us, we will die waiting for adventure and happiness to find us. There is no entertainment committee assigned to our life, if we want excitement, we have to go out and find it or make it happen. Excellent writing! I love this!!
Take care,
Sherry
