My heart is shattered but still holding on to a dream

Shattered like crystal on the floor,
The moment you walked out that door.
My broken heart will never mend,
No matter how hard I try to pretend.

Caught up in this false world of lies,
As I listen to all of your empty alibis.
I believed your words that you said,
Still I knew the ending was dead.

Held on to the nimble hope of your return,
Deep inside my crushed heart I still yearn.
Praying for another chance to make it right,
That you will open your eyes and see the light.

I long to feel your touch on my face,
The warmth of your tender embrace.
Sweet words you would whisper to me,
Gave me the strength to still believe.

How can I face another lonely day,
When all I love is slowly fading away?
Shattered pieces of my heart on the ground,
Delicately I pick them up without a sound.

Piece by piece I put my heart back together again,
Hoping for another true love that my soul will win.
One that will take away the memory of your face,
Blur the lines of our love that I contently trace.

Holding on to the dream of a better tomorrow,
Lost all alone in my deep and dark sorrow.
Keeping the faith as I hold my heart in my hand,
Shattered dreams can once again take a stand.

Shattered you are right now, but maybe it is best. You went through a lot and see into a great new future to be.
