Like The...I Am


Like the…Safety Net under a high wire, that has been removed to add suspense and thrill to the act of a trapeze artist who has just fallen to his death…I am.

Like the…Hand Spank of a Mother on her two-year old’s hand that warns of the imminently real danger and pain of a hot stove, with a bright and full percolated coffee pot on the edge of the counter…I am.

Like the…Panicky, frightened yell of a Mother’s harsh protective voice at her child running after a pretty ball into the oncoming path of a diesel truck…I am.

Like the…Helpless Gaze of a Mother’s eyes watching her child’s heart, mind, or body breaking…I am.

Like the…Loving heart breaking to pieces under the weight of betrayal and loss of love and time…I am.

Like the…Bizarre ending to a wonderful love story…I am.

Like the…Owner/Trainer of a beautiful Racehorse with a broken leg…I am.

Like the…Heir of a thousand year old vase, broken to pieces by the child you are babysitting for a friend…I am.

Like the…Environmentalist Camper whose campfire leaps up to destroy thousands of acres of forest and wild life…I am.

Like the…Mother of an adolescent who suddenly, with the “know it all” and “I don’t need you” attitude, carelessly runs in front of the everyday train and is torn to shreds before her family’s eyes…I am.

Like the…Great Shepherd, having left and lost his flock to find and nurture one lost sheep who runs wildly and directly into the wolf’s path…I am.

Like the…Empty broken heart, which loves endlessly, but never is totally loved itself…I am.

Like the…Swollen and enlarged belly of a child who is suffering and dying from malnutrition…I am.

Like the…Agony of an “unconditional love” giving tormented heart, struggling to block the pain by fueling the emptiness of the soul with a battering, battling of the mind…I am.

Like the…Wandering of a sinner’s soul in the desolate desert of consciousness, pleading desperately for the consolation of forgiveness from it’s creator, and the comforting love of His closeness in total essence…I am.

Like the…Passion-created enlarged belly of a womb, holding all the hope and goodness of one’s future, encapsulated in all the shame and humility of the past…I am.

Like the…Wide empty eyes of a soul lost deep within a broken spirit, realistically without strength to stand…I am.

Like the…Body yearning for the last caress, last kiss, unspoken words, last glance, of a warm respectful heart…I am.

Like the…Desire of passion held captive by the defenses of the ego running wildly into the night of loneliness…I am.

Like the…Scared, lost, insecure skepticism of a virgin love, being wooed by the confident, forceful, overpowering of persuasiveness and experience…I am.

Like the…Love, that is constantly offered wrapped in hope for a happy and fulfilled future, only to be refused, rejected, and denied, repeatedly…I am.

Like the wandering soul who is aimlessly directed toward the black hole of empty reward for this life’s efforts….I am.

Like the…Soul that yearns endlessly, faithfully, prayerfully, to be wrapped in the arms of The Creator and Savior of the world, eternally…I am.
