Inspired by the poem "Statue" I had recently written and posted.
He visited me the other day.
And words, he said a few
Except the most important phrase
That starts in I and ends with You.
A silent tear spoke volumes
Of the words he could not grasp
It's something he thought I knew…
Before this statue in the grass.
And its marble face looks back at him.
Its stone, cold image is but a ghost.
He looks for a soul within that chiseled grin…
He believes that my love's forever lost.
"Rest in Peace" it says somewhere
As he looked for a reason from God.
The marble statue just sits there
Over the muddy graveyard sod.
He visited me just the other day.
He says that this too shall pass.
He said the words he could never say
Before I was just a statue in the grass.

This is one of your very best Lori and one so many of us can relate to. All too often we wait too long or just never find the way to say the things that need to be said. You captured this so well
Said those words to hubby all the time. He loved it and now cannot tell him only at his grave, but do decor his grave with my love for him. He is more than a statue to me now, he is an angel and better not come back to me as a ghost.
