A cold change watches me in the wind

With the unearthly power of a

Beckoning storm. Calling sweetly “Come!”

Until I’m tempted to dance beneath

A blinding sky and drink the wild rain

With a thirst that no mortal knows.

Like a siren she summons me from

The depths of the dark sea, singing “Fall!”

And I almost do… Into the black

Chasm below, where unknown creatures

Roam with a grace and ferocity

Seldom seen in the earthly realms of man.

And my heart calls out to her too

Like a cold, distant echo, barely

Discernable beneath the rumble

Of water and rock and tumbling weed,

Aching and trembling with the prospect

Of a new dawn: Unblemished and bright.

But then the wild wind falls and her voice fades

Into a sliver of sunlight and

Evaporating cloud. And suddenly

I can no longer recall her face,

Nor the longing she wrought inside of

Me... And once again I can breathe.
