Words powerful to heal or malign
Parents and children brought together
By the simple act of conception
Spend a lifetime of guilt and confession
But we refuse to believe our muse
Retreat and become the recluse
Words, a series of letters
Innocent enough on the surface
Yet create a dysfunctional circus
For those bound by seed and blood
Spend a lifetime of hurt and rejection
From those we seek only affection
This reminds me of the words of Phillip Larkin- Have you ever read his poem about parents- it's quite memorable, and a very funny look at the effects parents can have on their children- though also very sad for the reality of it. This was written with a depth of feeling, which makes the strength of it come through. Good work.
