Goodbye, Hello

This was for my ex boyfriend Clint who I was with for 7 1/2 months.

As we say goodbye I lean over to touch your hand. Silently praying words of hope.

I say goodbye to the freedom,
goodbye to the great times along the way,
goodbye to the people I will never meet,
goodbye to the first day I met you,
goodbye to the ways I betrayed you,
goodbye to the shelter you gave to me,
goodbye to the doubts and goodbye to the worries,
goodbye to depending on you,
goodbye to the ways you hurt me.

Though the hard times have just begun I silently pray words of hope that will release one day.

I say hello to the sky,
hello to responsibility,
hello to the people we've made each other,
hello to the future of promises,
hello to the people who we'll be with together,
hello to the flower quietly growing,
hello to the happiness that should be coming.

So goodbye to those little things, how silly they were.
Goodbye to the little things we had once before,
making space in my memory for you evermore.

hello to the happiness that should be coming

I do like the way the second part of your poem emphasizes hope, Kathryn. I also appreciate the way you constructed this expressive piece. Thank you for sharing this offering. Love and best wishes,

Regis
