As I sit here on the corner
Hoping someone will glance my way
They carry bags of goodies
To cook on Thanksgiving Day
I remember so long ago
I was the one scurrying by
With thoughts of Thanksgiving
Cooking a turkey and lemon pie
I lost my precious family
When a fire destroyed my home
In an instant everything I loved
Went up in smoke and was gone
So I sit here on the corner
Praying that someone will see
Not the dirty clothes and matty hair
But the good inside of me
I don't have a fancy house
Are a place to lay my head
But I'm thankful for this bench
I can use it for my bed
I'm thankful for each smile
Some give when they pass by
I say a prayer for the ones
Who can't look me in the eye
My Thanksgiving is the memories
That I will always hold dear
I'm so thankful for my Jesus
I can always feel Him near
I pray for all the people
Who I know are worse than I
I brush the dirt from my clothes
And I hold my head up high....

Houston is a very generous city and we have two huge feasts into locations in the city during Thanksgiving and again, during Christmas where home was sent poor people gather and can eat their fill of all the things that would normally have on the table at these times.
Unfortunately, that only lasts for a day or two and people that feed the homeless on the street are sometimes stopped because they don't have kitchens that need commercial regulations and food distribution rules. It's a sad state of affairs. Food stamps don't cover most family's needs each month.
