How can you go on as if nothing matters when it should...

Nothing Matters
(January 26, 2009)

I see a glimpse of you,
Wherever I go,
Wherever I turn,
And I wonder are you really here;
Or just a hologram I conjured up in my mind
To make it seem that you care
About me, about us,
About what we can become,
About what we’ve been through.

I wonder why it seems you’re always here,
Yet I can never reach you or catch you.
I wonder how you go on
As if we’ve never met,
As if I don’t exist,
As if nothing matters,
Not I, nor you, nor us,
Not what was or could ever be.

Nothing really matters when it should
Because what matters is not nothing.
It is something with a purpose,
Something deep no matter how simple;
Everything has depth,
Even nothing has depth.

Depth is not nothing,
It is something that nothing holds;
Something that’s there for us to grasp.
But do we want to grasp it?
Do we want to acknowledge it?
This nothing that is something,
This depth that lives inside us,
In mind, body, and spirit,
This depth that can never be left behind --

Enjoyed this piece, it is strange I am working on a poem in a similar poetic frame of mind.

Interesting timing as I face an ending.
In some ways I am a bystander who can only marvel at the fall.
Something wrong in the plans somewhere?
Somebody cut corners?
I can only know what it should have been.
Hang in there.

This is a painful yet reality check write that shows how painful a relationship can be...still, in order to be painful when it ends it had to be something truly special while it existed. It is often hard to understand the other side when it ends for different people tend to handle heartache differently. It does not mean there are no feelings but perhaps in order to go on they need to put them in a special place until they can be appreciated and recalled with love.

I can feel the expressive passion "behind" these verses, the yearning to be understood; for the "other" to "see" what you feel. I've probably "said" this before but I love your poetry because I can relate to it so easily and I sense vividly what you are expressing. Thank you, Lena. Love and best wishes to you,

Regis
