I wrote this for my Daughters whom I love so much & still don't say it enough.

                          I’M SORRY MY GIRLS

Why, why did I do this throughout their young life?
Knowing at times it may have caused some strife
Was it because, as I grew up I copped the same
“Get up, stop crying, don’t show emotion, play the game.

It hurts thinking that I wasn’t there when they had fallen
Or to give a big hug, if a ankle or wrist was swollen
To be out on the road, it’s like living another life
Guilty, things were so hard for them, also my wife.

Even today I find it hard to have a long conversation
Why can’t I do it, why can’t I hold this communication?
I so love these grown women, with children of their own
And often my silly feelings make me feel so alone.

Was I so bad a Father and Husband to them all
Often I would dwell on this until it drove me up the wall
My family never had that hugging, kissing type love
Dad and Mum loved us, but their kind of way it was done.

So how do I tell my girls I love them and love them so
When I find this so hard, not wanting to put on a show
The time I know when I should say “I love you, I do”
Instead all I can muster is “Till next time I see you”.

I love them so much, it really hurts my heart
Sitting in my chair, thinking how far we are apart
One day soon I’ll show I’m not that tough
To hug, squeeze, love you, and not be so gruff.

So I hope one day they both will read this poem
The expression on their faces, will leave them glowing
I love you two, love you so much ,you see
To know before I go, your Father, I’m so proud to be.

David you’re about my age and I would venture a guess that the culture you grew up in was similar in nature. I can’t remember any adult males expressing open loving feelings. Anger, negativity or passive was well ingrained and culturally redeemed. You learn what you live until shown otherwise or until life experiences and/or reflection allow one to reap the benefits of emotional intelligence. I bet they already knew what you have expressed as you seem a guy with a big heart. Now that you have written it down, you know they know and so does everyone that reads it. Dave

David, a beautiful and deeply moving poem about your daughters and your feelings for them. Somehow, I think they know. We always look back and feel some regrets for our actions, but even though you were gone a lot, you were still in their lives and did not leave them as my daughters father chose to do. Cherish them now and their children. You can't change the past, only the future.

When they read this elegant and loving poem to them they will have a different view of how you love them. Let them read it before you die.
