There's a sparkly-twinkle in the eyes
of many cricket fans,
and Aussie flags are waving high ,
in patriotic hands,
though the game was held
on foreign shore,
Australian fans,paid to tour,
all-set to cheer, (sipping beer,)
on behalf of Aussie's LAND
The Aussie fans looked awesome,
with half their faces GOLD,
and the other half ,
painted GREEN,
(it washes-off, I'm told.)
OUR captain tipped his proud green cap,
embossed with emu bird,
(kangaroo ,it's on there too,)
then cheers of pride were heard.
The batter,and all-rounder
from OUR-team, did their best,
but heckling from the other side,
caused bad plan to '*fest,'
and as our team,
LOST their dream,
the batter dared a quest,
of cheating ,
and defeating,
and conquering... the rest.
With thirty cameras on the field ,
the culprit foiled the ball,
but to his shock,
the world took stock,
and watched
OUR COUNTRY FALL.
Not accustomed to sly ways,
'All-rounder' soon was caught,
and now Australia's name is slayed ,
our ethics ?
Seen as 'Naught.'
The crowds they booed our Aussie side,
until,at last, OUR captain... cried,
and all us fans... we ALMOST died,
from pain OUR champions brought.
The moral to this story is:
'Cheating ...NEVER wins,
and losing... is NEVER shame,
' It's NOT cricket,'
IF ... it SINS !
footnote: I used poetic license when I added the word '*fest,'in this poem,it is my nick-name for 'fester.'

I'm not really a follower of cricket myself I must admit,
but I am a great fan of poetry, and in particular your poetry,
and I really enjoyed this one.
from your pommie Pal steve.
