This is a Christmas poem I just wrote for my Mom. I hope you all like it, and Merry Christmas!

LONE SANTA

Lone Santa spends early December nights
Checking his parchments of naughty and nice
He sits by a window all curtained with frost

He sips a hot cocoa, his favorite vice
It helps him consider the strokes and strikes
For those on his good side and those who are lost

The storm outside has some mighty blows
Snow and ice clash in opposite throes
The beat on the walls and rattle the roof

Lone Santa's fireplace warms his fat toes
The hot cocoa causes a drip in his nose
But none of that blinds his old eyes to truth

He knows who's been bad and who has been good
As simple as chopping a stack of firewood
He jiggles his glasses to read all the names

Your name is there, it's just as it should
I don't know of mine, I do hope it could
I'm not the one to question his claims

Lone Santa's lamp is shimmering gold
The marks on his list are certain and bold
Decisions are made and firmly in place

This is the time he feels not so old
As to question his purpose and role in the mold
And he readies his sleigh for a 12 hour race

He shuffles the cuffs on his furry red suit
He climbs in his sleigh, kicks the mud off his boot
Snapping his reins at the sound of a shot

Lone Santa leaves gifts under all Christmas trees
While cookies and milk fill his belly with ease
Making certain all stockings are left unforgot

He skids on the rails of a wintery wind
Marking which houses he'll visit again
To make sure no children are up past curfew

If you're one of those hidden up high on the stairs
Lone Santa will never be caught unawares
But he'll still give a wink as he goes up the flue
