The moon is bright this night. It seems to smile sardonically at me and tufts of brittle grass in frozen fields of snow while in the woods nearby, its cold shine greets the bony branches of skeletal winter trees. Its spectral moonbeams cast shadows under these sleeping sentinels. So still and silent is the night that footsteps crushing snow seem almost sacrilegious − a sin to spoil the stillness and the snow.
I turn my footsteps homeward and as I do it seems I feel the cold moon sneer and hear a quiet sigh from hushed and speechless sentries.
Moon is the most fascinating topic for a poem, poets across the globe have addressed the moon in different ways.
In our country in India mothers address the moon as chanda mama(The Moon uncle)when they talk about the moon, But i have addressed him as a lover, read my poem The saga of the moon and the sea titled in AD pages
I can see why this one has been published so often. You brought this scene to life with a picture...but also with well chosen words. C'est fantastique!
Yes, the moon certainly talks to us. Or moves our moods along with the tides. That old moon pull. great write. LIz

I can place myself in that spot at that time. You have a mastery of words. I almost wish it was winter already! Thank you for sharing this work.

this work reminds me- not in style -
but mood - of Robert Frosts- "Stopping by Woods On a Snowy Eve"
"the woods are lovely dark and deep
and I have promises to keep- & miles to go
before I sleep - and miles to go before I sleep"
and although his moon is not cold..you both evoke
the appreciation for solitude and white fallen tuft
- a superb write- wonderful - Donna
The photo is so surreal ... and the words seem so bittersweet and that ending ...whoa! A different take on the Moon than I was expecting. Yet, I found the whole write wonderful and the emotional content so very deep.
Regis,
The photo is beautiful, and one can easily put themselves into the scene. It is also easy to be absorbed by the deepness of your words.
Great work.

Your feeling of loneliness is well-portrayed in this.
Why spoil the serenity and the beauty of the sardonic moon? The snow should be unspoiled, untouched to safe its beauty, the moon wish it that way. You don't want to be the first one to spoil its purity.
Since you specifically asked me to come and look, I have to tell you: I like it. Yes, the imagery is very nice. The pic is too.
I still say that I don't really need to come here and comment on your writing though, because your legions of admirers have already said just about all that can be said. You are like a friend of mine who is no longer with us. Her stuff was either wonderful ... or not. In this case it's quite good.

Very lovely Regis. You could have been describing the scene out my studio window with the moon and the trees in the snow. The photo is beautiful too. A nice ode to the "snow moon".
