Kindness
by John Herlihy
Kind
be kind
To be kind
As in kindness
Ah, such kindness
Kindness from whence
Whither kindness may go
Such a treasured word
Hail this valued treasure
Verily, I do say onto thee
As you have behaved well
Unto the least of my brethren
Your actions will speak of kindness
And your kindness will speak of you
Whenever you have been kind unto Me
So also, will I be more than kind to thee
Someone listens to what I have to say
Someone murmurs their sweet assent
The other knows exactly what you meant
Reaches out and gently touches my hand
Bestowed upon me freely their kind smile
I, the least of them all, have been sweetly touched
Amid my tribulations I breathe the breath of blessing
And give thanks for all the blessing that I have received
I kneel down with my hands folded at the end of the day
And the days will pass into other days until the end of days
Until my eyes close, my ears silent, and my breath will cease
I shall remember, the last thing to remember, all the kindness
