I
Once I was homeless with a twist
A wandering existentialist
Living existentially
In no position to resist
When nothing almost happened to me
Though here I am now because
Something happened then as it does
It is always something and it was
I was too I guess to be
Saying yes when life said yes to me
II
The end of the rainbow is wherever we are
From one end to the other where we see it and not far
Away nor a secret kept by leprechauns for
Some anymore but any of us and for many more
Embraced in place wherever we are by the grace
Of it all as it falls to us through space and time to see
The treasure is the pleasure of our company
The rainbow ends where it begins in friends like you and me
The end of the rainbow is never far
Where we are friends wherever we are
III
Joshua Tree is two degrees warmer
Twenty-Nine Palms is four
Usually like it is today
Because both the latter and the former
Are downhill from me or
Else uphill in the Hi-Desert I
In my hideaway in Yucca Valley
Am closer to the sky
Cool is not a matter of degree
But free where that is what matters to me
IV
Yellow orange salmon violet to the velvet blue
Over the mountains where the sun went down remembered when
I saw it now and knew then how I wanted to tell you
Today comes through tonight the other way becomes again
From its embers it too remembers when now becomes then
I always wondered but I think I understand the way
Tomorrow never comes is how forever is today
What never goes that yesterday may never take away
Yellow orange salmon violet to the velvet blue
Diamond stars will smile awhile now and may you smile too
