After My Before



Looking back I see
Not that I got over
But that I got through
Things happening that were
Consequential to
Me existentially
Happening to me
But I knew what to do

And over or not
Those things that I forgot
Or tried to forget
That I got by regret
Looking back at last
I see are in the past
And I got to be
A little better now

Not what was but more
As who I had hoped for
Through it to come true
To get it right somehow
Looking forward when
Not looking back again
Overlooking then
Now to see how I grew

Not what was but more
For after my before
