On Lower Street
right near the station
sits door that leads to
To the bar Destination.
Down some stairs
to that basement dive
dimly lit
but buisness thrives.
There in a corner
a piano
upright,
its lid stays closed
always shut tight.
No one dare touch it
never yields a note
no hands lift the lid,
it's been like that since
who knows
at least since the pianist died,
fell across the keys
one late night,
they thought he was drunk
there he just laid
until the barman called Time,
then said out aloud
'Come Bill, best be on your way
time to get going.'
Bill never moved that morning
not until
till he was taken away
as they did
his hand fell
made one last note play
thats how the piano has stayed
to this day.
Sort of symbolic
a shrine to old Bill,
they say if you listen
you can hear that last note
he is playing it still
the last note
of his last tune
Blue Lagoon.
I followed you through all the way. Such a sad tale, and the piano is now a ghost. Enjoyed this.
