Things can always be worse, so goes the curse.

Poem Artwork

Planted above in his cranium,
was something more powerful than uranium.
The ability to focus,
and control the holiday hocuspocus.
The outside world was in turmoil,
his inside world suffered no toil.

In his figuring there was no use,
in being the victim of double abuse.
He had no control of the outside,
but he had full control of the inside.
Surely the devil ruled the universe,
millions of years this has been the curse.

Every year he saw his friend full of joy,
it was like he had an inner toy.
This friend was always poor,
but never mean and sore.
He only had one leg,
the other was a wooden peg.
His friend was also very kind,
even though he was also blind.

He always wondered about this friends magic,
even though his world seemed so tragic.
Not only was he happy on the holidays,
but all through the year on regular days.
One day he just came out and asked,

With all your problems and disabilities,
why don't you show any hostilities?

His friend responded,

What good would that do,
too have all these problems,
and allow myself to be sad and blue?
Life has beat me enough,
why should I treat myself rough.
It is my choice to rule my own brain,
this way I have a little more joy to gain.
His friend finally died some years back,
but the lesson he learned
help keep him on track.

How much we can learn from cheerful people, especially those less fortunate than we are. He who is selfish and think he has all the ill of the world, will rue his lack of comprehension. Great poem. Victor
