Listening to digital imports again, www.di.fm
reminiscing to a time when…

18 years ago, or so,
I was at a street concert in Jamaica
.
There were hundreds of people there.
They were all burning one from
...ganja heaven.

Summer in the Caribbean
,
where the night air rests.
As if all of the atoms get doped up…
stoned out, and still.

Anyway the air was full of smoke,
all I needed to do was breath.

Years later,
spinning to trance, mixed with vodka.
Wondering if maybe tomorrow
I'll go stare at a tree....
maybe it will set me free...
maybe I'll need to count to 10 instead of 7.

Only problem is...
I can never escape myself.
No matter how hard I try.
And yet...
I just can't give up
...always hoping for another tomorrow.

I could stare into a million spots and count to seven
a thousand times,
I could fly through the universe,
but ultimately I would still be me.
Ultimately, I would still be my choices.
There just isn't any escape from the past...you know?
So no point in reminiscing.
Best leave tomorrow alone.

Yup-- you can't step into tomorrow like any particular Alice through a glass... but tomorrow comes to us inevitably-- sure as rain... --Charlie

Wow. I keep trying to lose myself, but I just keep showing up. You spin a story in your poetry on several levels. I love it. Liz

This is the freshest thing I have read on here in months, a raw, edgy write, AD needs more of this kind because you really show a distinct voice.

Did you know that looking into the sky and counting to seven or ten or twenty or even a hundred is a sign of mental illness? Neither did I, that's probably why I stopped doing it when someone told me that it was.

I know about not being able to escape myself. So irritating at times, lol. This also reminded me of a time when I saw a band called 3rd World and I also saw Bob Marley. That was in 1979 (I believe) wow, I am showing my age and I can still smell the smoke or should I say taste it??? Hee hee. Thanks for the memories.
