Poem Artwork

performance artist climbs the vine
hands wrapped around her throat, entwined
oh to sigh in the darkened night
to stand outside the tireless spotlight
but the stage awaits, the light her fare
her tears more fodder for life’s despair
the tempest brews, attention is drawn
all fury erupts into a venomous spawn
tears enfold dripping down her sleeve
tongues hold back lest they deceive
look lively now, she’s everywhere
the vamp of sympathy, handle with care

this is an excellent work, woman, do not apologize to anyone for the offense they draw from it, for it is in them, not you.

So we have poetry police, now? How un-American is that? How guilty must these whiners be to believe that every outburst of anger or agitation is written about them? I have a life out here, people, and I don't have the time or the desire to bother with the foolish and childish games. How arrogant of them to believe that any of us care enough to spend our time thinking about, much less writing about them. They have a sorry sickness and they are looking for recognition by playing the victim. I will say this now, though I have said it before. It is nobody's fault to be a victim, but it is their fault if they remain one. Whoever these complainers are, "Get over yourselves!" Freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of thought are granted by our Constitution/Bill of Rights and should not be violated because someone is getting their feathers ruffled. No one is forcing them to read what they don't wish to see. Their friends won't believe what is written about them and their enemies are already convinced, anyway. I feel sorry for these individuals if they have such a pitiful existence that they spend so much of their lifetime sitting here reading and applying writings and comments to themselves. I pity them also for not having the strength to handle the situation on their own. It is sad when an adult has to tattletale and request that a poem be deleted. It is also unfair to the rest of us for them to impose their presumptions and personal whims on others and even more pitiful when they go whining to management about how they are so picked on. Are these people 5 years old, or what? If the shoe fits, wear it; if it doesn't fit then it is not your shoe, period. Why should his or her rights take precedent over everyone else’s? Is it a situation of the squeaky wheel getting the grease? I feel sorry for management having to baby-sit these pathetic sad sacks. Okay, I am climbing off of my soapbox now. Excellent write, Sara. Hang tough, you have every right to be posting here and I, for one, am honored to read your work.
Take care,
Sherry

You upsetting people again Sara. Me too I'm afraid, but they will carry on as if getting us all to read the Bible can possibly make the world OK.
I liked this poem, it stands alone, without reference to what prompted it. And as Lisa says in the previous comment, do people think we really have nothing better to do than write about them. Perhaps what really gets to the complainers is that just once in a while we make them understand that the entire universe does not revolve around them.
Have a happy solstice
love
Ian

Yeah I agree Sara....I'm refusing to put disclaimers on my poetry. I have better subjects myself to write about than those here that believe they are all the world evolves around. Believe me..if I'm writing about somebody..they are going to know it, there will be no guessing and confusion.
Keep writing Sara!

Whoah Sara! Somebody pee'd in your Kellogs alright! It truly amazes me how people can get offended and then stir up a dust storm. Why don't they simply choose not to read what offends them?
I don't know what your last poem was about but your remarks above have made me curious. Please send me a copy when you read this. Thanks! ;-)

Now to this poem:
Firstly the pic., although disturbing, is appropriate to the poem and painted an immediate picture that then set the tone for the words that followed. You are clearly a skilled wordsmith and you build very effectively with well chosen words to a great climax.
Well done!
(Now take a deep breath. Tell yourself this: 'love, a greater weapon than anger' I'm being serious...it works!)
Take care... Chanti

Sara, this is an excellent rant for an enlightened artist expressing oneself to the fullest. I, too, agree, far too many seem to believe everything written has a direct implication, instead of knowing it’s “Poetry.” Wonderful job.

I liked the poem, but I think the summary best of all.

Excellent write...enjoyed the imagery. As for your summary, a few old sayings come to mind, 'A skunk smells its own hole', 'If the shoe fits..' and 'The truth hurts'. Unfortunately, there are some folks that believe everything centers around them...a strange, decietful and somewhat psychotic lot indeed. Perhaps there is so much lacking in their lives they feel the need to bring misery to others. 'Tis a real drag for all.

My, my, but everybody here at old AD is getting testy these days. Can't say that I blame you, however, although I don't know the poem. I probably commented on it but my brain doesn't functin very well these days.

(((sara)))

such power in your words--stunning imagery

my favorite lines are:

"...her tears more fodder for life's despair..." <---don't let them see you cry, that's what they want

and

"...all fury erupts into a venomous spawn..." ,---true! true! too much of that here lately

thank you for having the courage to write--this is exceptional! well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :)
