My son left home for the last time and this is what resulted from the hearbreak I'm feeling.

Good-bye My Boy

As you go into the world

And face it as a man

There are things I must tell you

As a mother and a friend

I couldn’t find the words to say

When we said good-bye

As you drove away from me

All I could do was cry

* May the wind be at your back*

May the Son shine upon your head

May your feet be guided by the hand of God

So you’ll never be mislead

Embrace life with arms wide open

Sprout your wings and fly

Have love in your heart for everyone

Good-bye my boy good-bye

Son I am so proud of you

And the man that you’ve become

And now you are the father

Of a newborn baby son

Treasure every moment

Teach him all you know

I hope you’ll say these words to him

When it’s time for him to go

*REPEAT CHORUS*

One day I will leave this Earth

And go back to my home

It’s there that I will wait for you

Until your journey’s done

If you ever think of me

I won’t be far away

Just listen as the wind goes by

And you will hear me say

*REPEAT CHORUS*

This is beautifully written and comes from the heart of only a mother. When my son told me that he wanted to marry the young lady whom he had dated for about a year, I was stunned. I loved the love of my son's life who now my daughter inlaw of seven years...and I actually arranged their first date, because I thought she was so sweet, beautiful, and just the right person for my first born, I wasn't ready to turn loose...for he was my baby still. The emotions that bleed through your words capture the exact feelings that I was faced with. I loved your advice, I too gave similar advice as this to my child...this is one of the hardest things that a mother must do...let go. I got through this hard part of my life that I hadn't planned for by being thankful that he was healthy and alive...I know mom's who have had to say goodbye for the final time until they meet again in heaven. I felt a bit selfish when I thought about those mom's. Today, seven years later my son and daughter inlaw have given me a beautiful granddaughter who reminds me so much of my son at that age...my advice to them is to cherish her enjoy her....for time has a way of slipping away quickly. Great write my friend...you've taken me back in time.
Blessings and happy holidays,
Joyce Bowling

Beautifully written Elizabeth. Laced with equal portions of melancholy and hope. We are just about ready to release our daughter into the world.

May the wind always fill your sails, and may your rudder always bring you home.

Light and Wisdom ...
