MONK FISH

Among Coley fish and sprats,
flounder that feed on mud flats,
king prawns in their shells,
the cold eyes of a monk fish -

God love him, he's so ugly!

No rainbow trout or red salmon
- fish with grace and beauty -
but a flat brown monstrosity
from the sea-bed.

I love the stand-alone line "God love him, he's so ugly"
Nice of you to give him his moment of fame!

Monkfish? Yep!! Like Ted said...tastes like lobster without being a finger food too much. Your wit shows in this poem. I like the taste of this!

Tuna - a meat and a half!! Monkfish - a good meal but still distinctly fishy and therefore all the more "clean and nutritious" for that...and besides - all the best restaurants are serving these days...The Fishmonger is just thinking of the cash, I'll be bound!! And, Pal, I've just the thing for you... keep the week of the 16-21st August free and you'll be guaranteed a taste of the real Man! I'll lay my last and best beautiful feather fly on it! Intriguing mix of thought processes here, Joe, and a write that really reels you in on more than one level... Neat and cool! Enjoyed - makes me smile - I've a heart for the poor old monkfish and his starin eyes don't bother me... I know what he's lookin at! You'll never have arthritus at this rate... Thank you, Kate xx

Very true! I liked this one. Playful... yet deep with a hint of inner pondering. Fun!

I eat it at least once a month, a poor man's lobster, but to me it is just good fish that taste a bit like lobster.
