When she was born, she looked like any other child, born to this world,
A precious gem, she was our first, our darling baby girl.
Ten fingers and ten toes, her tiny head was full of curls,
A jewel sent to adorn our lives, and so we named her "Pearl".
Our hopes and dreams depended on this bundle of eight pounds.
Until the doctor told us, "Pearl" has something we call "Downs".
Our world came crashing in, A heavy burden took her place,
Our little "Pearl" would never be the child that she replaced.
The children ridiculed her and kept our "pearl" at bay,
But "Pearl" only felt the happiness, a child derives from play.
"Pearl" sees the things we overlook and finds joy everywhere.
The gift that we received in "Pearl". is far beyond compare.
How could we know the blessing, God bestowed upon us two,
When he opened up our hearts and filled them up with loving you.
Our tragedy became a lesson, through our little girl,
An angel we're so proud to call our daughter, that is "Pearl".

A pearl like any other gem in life is not measured by it's outside, and such when finding human gems the same does hold true!
