The ego is the false self - born out of fear and defensiveness. Being 'petty', or 'narrow in outlook' is something that afflicts a lot of people as they age. (Perhaps) many of the misunderstandings in the world could be avoided if people would simply take the time to ask: 'What else could this mean?' But.... that's probably just a dream. While Debtors prisons no longer exist, many people continue to be persecuted for crimes related to poverty or inability to repay money owed to municipalities. This practice remains in an injustice that needs to be rectified.
