Bikers - God Bless ‘Em!
Most of us start out as little Kids -
With Tricycles -
Then, move on to Bicycles -
With ‘Training Wheels’ Maybe?
When we are more Adept -
An’ ‘Growed Up’ Some -
We fashionably call Them -
‘Trikes’ and/or ‘Bikes’ -
Ergo, the term - Bikers!
When I was a young Kid -
My cousin, Howard, took me for a Ride -
On the back of his ‘Motor-Bike’ -
No idea what the CC’s were way back Then -
But - it sure weren’t no ‘Hog!’
Then, there’s the ‘Mini-Bikes’ -
Cute lil guys with small wheels n’ small Motors -
Years ago, when my kids were Small -
We were visiting Family -
Up in Joisey ...
After Dinner one night, my Nephew-in-law, Rich -
Said: “C’mon, let’s take a Ride!”
We cranked their boys’ two ‘Mini’s’ Up -
And down to the back of their property we Went -
On a Trail, in the Woods, down a Steep Hill ...
Rich was quite proficient, and led the Way -
I was a mere Novice - unsure of Every-Thing!
Soon, we were ‘WHOOSHING’ Along -
Faster n’ Faster - n’ Faster -
Rich was way out of Sight ...
I GOT SKEERED!
Tried to find the Damned Clutch -
‘Thing-a-Ma-Jig’ on the left side Pedal -
Wanted to ‘Gear Down’ - but Couldn’t -
OMG - WTF ...
Squeezed the Wrong Hand-Grip -
And - ‘WHAM - BAM - THANK YOU, MA’AM!’
My Whole Body Went -
‘Ass Over Tin-Cups’ -
Over the Handle-Bars - into a Briar Patch!
Eventually, Rich came ‘Tooling Up’ -
That Damned Hill - Searchin’ for Me!
Thank God the Bike was OK!
None the Worse for Wear -
I was a Different Story!
With a chorus of: ‘OOHS n’ OUCHES”
He got me Untangled n’ out of the Bushes -
All the while - Laughin’ his fool head Off!
Yeah! I was a ‘Biker’ Alright -
A Damned Dumb ‘City-Slicker’!
After the Gals patched me Up -
N’ painted me up with Iodine -
It seemed no Bones were Broken -
N’ I would Live!
Just Lucky I Guess?
I was Maybe about Forty, or so Then -
Always Dreamed of Owning a Bike some Day -
Perhaps a Pretty Red One?
Kawasaki - Suzuki - Triumph?
A Harley-Davidson Might be Too Much?
Yeah! Me on a ‘HOG’! ... SURE!
Never Happened - what with Me -
Married, With Children n’ All!
Sounds like a Good Excuse -
DON’T IT?
‘Toolin’ Down The Road -
Wind in your Hair -
‘June-Bugs’ in yer Teeth -
YEP! That’s the Ticket!
FREE as a Bird!
‘Hell’s Angels’ - Pagans’ -
Or some other ‘Biker Gang’ -
YEAH - I’d have been Real MACHO!
‘ONE KOOL KAT’ -
They don’t call me ‘WUSS’ fer Nothin’!
Now - at the Ripe Old Age of Seventy -
Every time I ride by one of those Places -
That sells ‘Motor-Scooters’ -
I STILL DREAM ...
How about a Pretty Red One?
I have a neighbor that is in her early 60s that rides a Honda bike of sorts, has a windshield and lots of storage and she rides it to her nursing job when the weather is just right...get on out there and ride ya wuss...ed
Thank you for sharing your wit and humor, Tom. As for me and "bikes," I'll stick to the kind that I power myself with the strength of my legs; I feel a lot safer that way. LOL! Love and peace to you,
