I Break My Heart By John Herlihy I break my heart Every time I see you leave. I break my heart Every time I see someone grieve. I break my heart Every time I can’t forgive my mistakes. I break my heart Every time I give whatever it takes. I break my heart Whenever I see innocent children slaughtered. I break my heart Whenever I hear an injustice ordered. I break my heart Whenever I hear that people have suffered. I break my heart Whenever someone doesn’t accept what I offered. I break my heart At the same time that I take heart. I break my heart At the same time that I lose heart. I break my heart At the same time I find my heart. I break my heart At the same time I forgive my heart. What is it that breaks my heart? Lost love and abandoned hopes. What is it that breaks my heart? Missed chances and desperate folks. What is it that breaks my heart? Misplaced frustration and rage. What is it that breaks my heart? Ignorance dominating the sage. All this and more breaks my heart.
