A SECRET FEAR
By John Herlihy

In the backdrop of our lives, we harbor a secret fear,
That sits there in silence wondering if the end is near.
We go about our business from the morning to night;
We may keep our equilibrium and manage our fright.
Nothing else in the world makes its presence known,
As does the fear of death that we nurture on our own.
Death becomes a reality that never gives up its ghost,
Taking up a residence within us as a permanent host.
I imagine what it feels like to never come back again,
My soul no longer caring wherever I might have been.
On this side of paradise, give up the doubts that haunt,
Abandon all of those premonitions of death that taunt.
Why the fear if we end up roaming thru star galaxies,
On wings free at last from the pull of earthly gravities.

ITS NATURAL TO FEAR THE UNKNOWN AND, AS WE ALL KNOW, NO ONE HAS EVER DIED AND COME BACK TO TELL US ABOUT IT...BUT ONE. 'HE' DID NOT GO INTO DETAILS BUT WE KNOW THAT 'HE' WAS RADIANTLY ALIVE AND THAT HE HAD TOLD US BEFORE HIS DEATH THAT HE WAS GOING TO PREPARE A PLACE FOR US, AND ALSO, HE SAID THAT EYE HAD NEVER SEEN NOR EAR EVER HEARD OF THE MARVELOUS THINGS THAT AWAITS THOSE WHO BELIEVE. BUT SETTING THOSE THINGS ASIDE, LET ME SAY, AS ANY PERSON I AM NOT BRIMMING OVER WITH A LUSTFUL DESIRE TO "LEAP" INTO DEATH' NO, I'M NOT THERE. BUT I KNOW WHEN GOD GETS READY, I'M GOING TO DIE HOWEVER, FOR ME, THE THING THAT TAKES THE 'EDGE OFF' MY CONCERN ABOUT THE PASSAGE FROM LIFE TO DEATH IS NOT SO MUCH AS...'WHAT' AWAITS ME, BUT 'WHO' AWAITS ME. ALMIGHTY GOD IN THE SPLENDOR OF HIS TRINITY; FATHER, SON AND HOLY GHOST WILL BE THERE TO EMBRACE AND WELCOME ME...I'M GOING 'HOME' SOMEDAY! AND I'M ALRIGHT WITH THAT. ENJOYED THIS THOUGHT-PROVOKING WORK. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

The fear of death has haunted me since childhood. Since I had such a cheerful mother, there's no wonder I grew up fearing everything. It would be nice to know that after death arrives, we will be free to roam the universe.

For some reason I think it's going to be a trip for our soul to break free and become. That's why the brain keeps working for a few minutes or seconds after the body is history.......the soul is using it perhaps and the brain will flip out because it's going to be so mind blowing! Man, you got my imagination going, John!! 'Love your work!!

Love ya!

So far, I haven't minded growing old. The only fear I have, is the fear of becoming a vegetable from dementia or a stroke, or any other thing that could do that.

I turned 79 this month. Yes, the idea of death is very, very real to me. I don't exactly fear it, what I do fear is ending my days in a nursing home.
