The Fullness of Time

By John Herlihy

We often speak of the fullness of time,

We never speak of its stark emptiness.

In truth, time has little fulness to spare,

It just comes and goes with nary a care.

Remember the fact of the surety of time,

Is drawn from the well of eternity’s mine.

Is drawn from the well of eternity’s mine,

Time’s emptiness always seems in haste,

With nothing to do, it just goes to waste.

The young comment on time’s fullness,

The elderly lament of time’s emptiness.

The fullness of time has served us well,

Its emptiness well forgotten, truth to tell.

The fullness of time has invaded us all,

Vast, endless, it simply holds us in thrall.

Either empty or full, its arrow never stops,

With the passage of time, everything rots.

In the fullness of time, I do see a promise,

In knowing time’s worth, I value its solace.

Love ya!

I THINK THAT THE PHRASE; FULLNESS OF TIME, IS NOT REALLY UNDERSTOOD SIMPLY BECAUSE THE SPIRIT OF GOD UNCTION-ED MEN OF GOD, WHO PENNED HIS WORD, TO USE THIS PHRASE TO DISTINGUISH THE ARRIVAL OF 'GOD'S' APPOINTED/PREDESTINED HOUR. THUS, TO WAIT ON THE 'FULLNESS OF TIME' SPEAKS OF WAITING FOR THE FULFILLMENT OF PROPHECIES FROM CENTURIES BEFORE AND IT IS REALLY 'WAITING' ON GOD, WHICH IS NOT A WASTE OR EMPTY AT ALL. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Ay, "knowing time's worth" is what it's all about, especially if the individual truly seeks out his or her personal take on time. Unfortunately, few think past the ticking aspect. As you suggest, there's so much more.

I would think that every minute we have spent of the time we were always doing something in our lives. That minute of emptiness is always filled to the brim when another minute takes over. I'm sure most of us are using our time wisely, doing something productive to improve ourselves rather than like some egotistical people who would spend their entire ignorant time wasted in spilling their useless daily debris of thoughts to criticize others, it just goes to reflect on their own insecurity. Those people should really practise what they preach!!!

Time is a convention of man based on primarily, the experience of Earth's rotation both on its axis and around the sun. Each one carefully chronicled and found to be far more individually precise than any human thought. Time's apparent emptiness is all in our minds because the natural phenomenon that is driving our time is running our thoughts at the same time. If we are in a rather blank, meditative state, it feels like we are full of "empty" thoughts.

There is much truth within the lines of this poem.

I value its solace as well, John. The future is something everyone reaches at sixty minutes an hour, no matter what he does or who he is. Enjoyed your thoughts. Peace... r

In truth time has little fullness to spare,
it just comes and goes with nary a care.

Those 2 lines sum everything up perfectly. Quite a timely write. Enjoyed.
