- My Life on Paper -

By John Herlihy

I have lived the better part of my long life on paper;

In the anonymity of written words, I feel much safer.

The life that I live in person at times seems mundane;

I work hard, go about my business, try to remain sane.

The writer in me exposes my heart for what it is worth;

I simply take my pen in hand and the words pour forth.

It is not the I within me but the ghostly muse that writes;

Pen in hand, I close my eyes to record her bright lights.

In person, I was never able to show any of my true feelings;

Instead, I wrote them down, then went about my dealings.

The hidden emotions lay there quietly in black and white;

In the telling. I give shape to what I think wrong and right.

I wish to hold nothing back as I am releasing my true voice;

With the poem finally done, I come to my senses to rejoice.

I have given something away as the words sit on the page;

The poems written by another, as I look back from old age.

I LOVE THE RHYMING SEQUENCE HERE AND THE STYLE IS GREAT. MY LIFE ON PAPER, INDEED, EVERY WRITTEN WORD REVEALS WHO WE ARE, WHERE WE'VE BEEN AND WHERE WE ARE GOING. WELL DONE AND ENJOYED. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

For me, writing is a therapy that eases any feeling of anxiety. I release my bottled up feelings through writing blogs.

For the most part, I am just the opposite. I prefer to write mostly humorous poetry over serious subjects and matter. But whatever works for you, just keep on writing.

Poetry . . . Novels . . . These two things were the balm to my physical aches . . . I released them and they stared back at me from the monitor. I wrote what I "really" felt instead of hiding like I have done so many, many times before I discovered this outlet.

Beautiful, even though I don't understand why it has to be another in the end. Because of humility perhaps.

I try mostly to be courageous when I write. For me it's a way to honestly reveal what I experience, more so than who I am. Writing is a purging healing explorative artistic process for me. It's also a process that acts like a finely-meshed sieve that filters out the many impurities that regularly accumulate in my brain. It frightens me sometimes how much there is. I suppose it's why I only share about 20% of what I do. Enjoyed your view of yourself, John. Well done. Peace... rlc

A purging of the heart, mind, and soul addressed in our Sunday-best words.

That's what poetry is good for. Once you've written down on the piece of paper, or posted it somewhere, you have released what has been bogging you down. I'm glad you are doing that.
