-- Though My Senses Fail -–
John Herlihy
Though my senses flounder and fail,
To see the Unseen drives the wind of my sail.
Though my eyes be transparent and blind,
Inner light a color of another kind.
Though my tongue be tied in knots firm and tight,
When unraveled, I will speak forthright.
Though my sense of touch only surface deep,
The Divine Hand will offer the depths of all I seek.
Though I taste the bitter gall of life’s trial,
Every burden I will bear with a smile.
Though I listen intently, but rarely do I hear,
All the mystery sung softly into my deaf ear.
Though I sense a host of noxious smells,
Lurking in corners of the world no one tells.
The perfume of the paradise is what I seek,
To fill to overflowing a world that is bleak.
Though my efforts bear the marks of falsehood,
I will look beyond my ego as I should.
Though my love bears the mark of sincerity,
It still must reach the heart of verity.
Though my senses flounder and fail,
I will never openly my true destiny bewail.
May I see with the inner eye, listen with the inner ear,
Taste all the emotion encased within a single tear.
Though my senses flounder and fail,
I will pursue my hidden purpose and never fail.
May I smell the perfumes of Arabia in one final breath,
May I lift the veil of mystery in the hour of my death.
