Sometimes memories have a life before their time,

They already exist in the future waiting to be mine.

Memories with a life of their own, pulsating or still,

Appear before our eyes in the richness of their will.

Memories that must happen, fixed and immutable,

As we live in a passive voice with events unsuitable.

Friendship you lived with but knew would never last,

In the echo of the day, a moment felt already past.

A lost love on the horizon you knew would happen,

Rejection, disappointment inside your heart tappin’.

Do not forget all those things that you already miss,

Being valued, sudden happiness, the lingering kiss.

With no human tinkering, destiny will run its course,

Knowing it would bring along its feeling of remorse.

There they are, all those memories, simply atappin’,

There on the other side of my door, waiting to happen.
