-- A Blindness That Sees -–
John Herlihy
A poet’s magic a blindness that sees,
From deep darkness a gentle breeze.
The lyric verses from deafness heard,
Tracings of melodies sung by a bird.
The poem itself silent on the page,
A music of words heard by a sage.
Thoughts first silent whenever born,
From a deep well in the heart torn.
For once an honesty that will prevail,
An unlocked mystery that will assail.
A poetic style distinct from all others,
The words on a page live as brothers.
Deafness knows silence of the hour,
Blindness sees with visionary power.
Deafness a silence we will never know,
Blindness the farthest we will never go.
