-- Yesterday’s Tomorrow --

John Herlihy

Yesterday’s tomorrow,

Suddenly becomes today.

But the day seems on borrow,

Would we have it another way?

We keep waiting for tomorrow,

But tomorrow never comes.

Whether in joy or in sorrow,

On a path of breadcrumbs.

When tomorrow does arrive,

The day seems as yesterday.

Just another day to survive,

To find our own singular way.

Just look ahead to see tomorrow,

There at the edge of time’s arrow.

You're right. Tomorrow never really comes. It's an ethereal illusion forever just beyond our grasp. Pure, pregnant and yet, empty. Per Anne Shirley (paraphrased), isn't it wonderful how tomorrow remains mistake free?

Tomorrow will take care of itself, it's the day after that I'm worried about.

Aren't we all trying to figure out how to reach into the future, warp time, etc.. Your words just do it so beautifully! Rock on!

Love ya!

Another gem of thought eloquently rendered with your inimitable style of flowing verbage. I remain at odds with the readers of poetry not reading more of your work. Perhaps it is that too many want only to be soothed by poetry, rather than allow challenge of thought as well..."there at the edge of time's arrow."
