-- Moments We Live --
John Herlihy
We each have our moments,
Every single moment we live.
We each have our moments,
Moments to think, feel, give.
We each have our moments,
Of happiness and of despair.
We each have our moments,
Of generosity and for prayer.
We have moments of longing,
As we reach out from the self.
Our moments with belonging,
Tucked neatly onto life’s shelf.
We have moments of learning,
We thrive as we come to know.
We have moments of yearning,
In moonlight, as we see it glow.
We have moments of sorrow,
Failing, losing, missing, or lost.
Moments we live for tomorrow,
The future arrives but at a cost.
We have moments of waiting,
For things that never do arrive.
The unknown lies there baiting,
When all we want is to survive.
We have moments of confusion,
Things happen, I ask what to do.
Miseries can arrive in profusion,
In my imagination I never knew.
Now all the moments of hiding,
My smile hidden behind a mask.
Still I keep my thoughts abiding,
Victory as we keep to the task.
We have moments of mystery,
We feel touched by magic spell,
Savor moments of such beauty.
How they thrill me I will not tell,
Myriad moments do fill the day,
One by one I will count the ways.
What will happen I can never say,
I calmly await the life of my days.
