-- Sail Away, Sail Away --
John Herlihy
Don’t we all now want to just drift away,
Go to sleep, but all the while still awake.
To just sail away, friends, sail far away,
To live happily with the angels by and by.
My heart troubled, with worries galore,
Life didn’t seem to be getting any easier.
To just sail away, friends, sail far away,
To live happily with the angels by and by.
Who be asking me and making demands,
To do this, to do that, to keep on doing.
To just sail away, friends, sail far away,
To live happily with the angels by and by.
You be calling me friend, left me undone,
Better to be alone with friends like that.
To just sail away, friends, sail far away,
To live happily with the angels by and by.
To live happily with the angels by and by.
With no pot to rightly piss in, as they say,
And no window to threw it out of, either.
To just sail away, friends, sail far away,
To live happily with the angels by and by.
The going rough, with sickness and such,
The separation and loneliness hard to bear.
To just sail away, friends, sail far away,
To live happily with the angels by and by.
Let me find my way back into life again,
Ragged, yet now free from life’s storm.
To sail back again, friends, sail back again,
To live happily there amid family and friends.
Find my way back into a new-found world,
To leave behind all the sickness and death.
To sail back again, friends, sail back again,
To live happily there amid family and friends.
Back to some talking and music and laughter,
Another country for the mind to go back to.
To sail back again, friends, sail back again,
To live happily there amid family and friends.
To come back to health, sanity, camaraderie,
To listen again to the compelling music of life.
To sail back again, friends, sail back again,
To live happily there amid family and friends.
To make my way back into the fabric of life,
The forgotten customs of our earlier world.
To sail back again, friends, sail back again,
To live happily there amid family and friends.
Nothing to match it, in this day-to-day world,
There it is, nothing could ever come up to it.
To sail back again, friends, sail back again,
To live happily there amid family and friends.

I found myself reading it, in my mind's voice, in Geoffrey Rush’s voice from Pirates of the Caribbean. Ah, arrr, matey that poem be worth a gold sovereign or piece of eight.
It does leave one pondering: who made up life rules.
And live happily amid family and friends...
but with a new conscience for the future...
Diana...
I enjoyed reading your work. :)
