-- Makings of True Beginning --
John Herlihy
We live in the aftermath of a beginning,
In the wake of our birth, we start sinning.
Human nature signs its name original sin,
We know things end, where do we begin.
We often look forward to how things end,
Closure often serves as a long-lost friend.
Beginnings have a way of seeming a blur,
There in the future, they may never occur.
Desire a frantic wish never there in fruition,
Hope but a misty dream, part of a tradition.
We plan for future events never to happen,
We lazily spin webs with no right to reckon.
Rest content that in the arrival of the end,
We may find the makings of true beginning.
