-- Making Up for Lost Time --
by John Herlihy
,
How often we try to make up for lost time,
A pause in life’s rhythm, like a skipped rhyme.
How we fret and fritter so many hours away,
Not being in the moment, like children at play.
Indecisive, we procrastinate, things left undone,
Loose ends in the fabric, our tapestry unspun.
Nothing stops streaming sands of an hour glass,
Minutes mark the hour as destiny comes to pass.
Then a moment arrives when we begin to realize,
The moments we have lost, our wastage despised.
We get smart and refocus, turning over a new leaf,
Seizing all those precious moments with such relief.
Still time we have lost is not time we have regained,
Seconds, minutes, hours vanish, less time remained.
My pledge, to fill with purpose all the empty hours,
Not to waste but value time and its special powers.
