-- Making Ends Meet --

by John Herlihy

,

Making ends meet,

What a miraculous feat.

The tides ebb and flow,

Winds at rest, then blow.

Rope ends tied in a knot,

Forget me, forget me not.

Hunger felt as despair,

Fulfillment felt as prayer.

The two ends of the day,

Meet the two ends of the night.

The end of time a mystery,

The absence of time an eternity.

The ends of time come together,

The circle of eternity linked forever.

This wasn't what I was expecting at all. I confess the title had me expecting something grave at best and dire at worst about a financial crisis. I was pleasantly surprised to read something lighter and much more pleasant. Even playful. Your choice of graphic was perfect for this poem.

This was both a fun and arresting read. You often poeticize various elements as one or coming together. This was an interesting play on the phrase "Making Ends Meet". Write on.

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
