-- Nagging Doubts --
John Herlihy
Nagging doubts will inevitably intrude,
Always there our certainty to preclude.
Those nagging doubts rear their ugly head,
Thus putting certainty on the line instead.
Light makes shadows from innocent forms,
A comforting shade the bright light adorns.
We think we know a thing only to wonder,
Am I right or wrong, it all feels like thunder.
Sinister questions creep silently on cat’s paws,
Imperiously roaming the mind with gaping jaws.
Then there are the doubts that we actually enjoy,
Undue certainty an arrogance others may annoy.
Never stifle a doubt that can question life’s mystery,
Unexpected pathways can lead to lasting certainty.

As my short-term memory starts to fade away I find more and more doubting what I did yesterday.
