The Wellspring of Love

John Herlihy

Such feeling to which nothing can compare,

Either smiles or tears with nothing to spare.

From some deep well this emotion to draw,

As subtle and delicate as a tender cat’s paw.

From where does this raw emotion come,

Fresh bud on a tree that turns into a plum.

A pristine river drawn from life’s wellspring,

Purest of waters whose bursting bubbles sing.

Such raw sentiments that I never felt before,

Such rarified treasure now found in my store.

A mood so exquisite that it must have a name,

Emotion so personal it must never feel blame.

It is of the wellspring of love that I now speak,

To give and be given in return that I now seek.

THERE IS AN EMPTY SPACE INSIDE OF US ALL, WHICH EVER YEARNS TO BE FILLED. IT IS FOR THIS WELLSPRING THAT YOU SPEAK OF THAT IT YEARNS. UNTIL IT IS FILLED WE CONTINUE TO FEEL IT'S GNAWING AS WE SEEK TO SATISFY IT WITH PHYSICAL THINGS. BUT IT IS SPIRITUAL AND NO ONE OR NOTHING CAN FILL IT BUT...THE MARVELOUS LOVE OF GOD, THROUGH JESUS. WE WERE MADE LIKE THIS. I KNOW. I KNOW BECAUSE FOR YEARS I FELT ITS GNAWING AND TRIED TO FILL IT WITH EVERYTHING ELSE...BUT GOD. UNTIL...ONE DAY...I TURNED TO FIND 'HIM' STANDING THERE WAITING. I INVITED 'HIM' IN AND ...WE DINED. AS HE FILLED ME WITH HIS WELLSPRING OF LOVE....QUENCHED WAS EVERY LONGING, EVERY 'PANT' I'D EVER KNOWN. AND... IT HAS NEVER STOPPED, AMEN. THANKS FOR SHARING, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

I have that wellspring you write of. The route to it is long but it comes as stealthy as your cat or a song. The less you seek the more you will find.

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
