Cat causing mayhem

Poem Artwork

The Intrusion

Pity the poor mouse

Running loose in our house,

Brought home by a cat

And dropped on the mat

It ran for its life

Never meant to cause strife.

But the cat made such a clatter

Didn’t think it would matter

The noise woke me with a start

Disturbing the beat of my heart

It’s only four in the morning

I thought it was a warning

we might have an intruder

and what could be ruder!

But I’m not going to shout

As cat knocks things about,

So now I’m awake

And the mouse needs to escape

On one thing we agree

I need to set him free

And I am in need of a drink

A cup of hot coffee I think.

 Reviews of "The Intrusion"

That picture is precious. The expression is so telling. And the twist in the story of the cat bringing home the mouse and letting it loose, and then going after it again, gives the whole thing an allegorical feel. We have an American Short-hair, her name is Lucy. She likes bringing in lizards. This brought my wife and I a good laugh. Thanks. rlc
