This is lyrics to a song I wrote with the intention that it be played and sung to a bluegrass melody. I can hear it in my head but I don't read or write music so you gotta pick it up in your own head :o)

Poem Artwork

(1)

My wife don't like the songs I play

She thinks they're kind of silly.

She likes classic orchestra and

I like Hank and Willy.

So we agreed to make this rule

Back when we both were young:

If we don't discuss our music

We will always get along...and she said...

(refrain)

"Let's don't talk about music;

It's the worst thing we can do.

Please don't talk about music;

You might lose me if we do.

I'll play Rogers and Hammerstein;

You play your country song.

But, let's not talk about music

And we'll always get along."

(2)

I leave her at the concert hall,

Go out to play my songs.

We tolerate each other's styles

That's how we get along.

But we never talk about music

So we never disagree, because

We belong together; I love her

and she loves me.

(second refrain)

Let's don't talk about music;

It's the worst thing we can do.

Please don't talk about music;

I might lose you if we do.

You play Rogers and Hammerstein;

I'll play my country song.

But let's not talk about music

And we'll always get along.

(3)

She said, "When I sit in the orchestra

It's music that we play.

We don't just keep on tuning

Our instruments all day.

And though I don't say anything

When you boys begin to play,

That noise that you call music

Is what makes me want to say..."

(refrain)

(4)

When we were wed I made my vow

To love her till I die.

And nothing she can say or do

Will make my vow a lie.

As long as we can both refrain

From talking about our songs

I know we'll stick together

And our love will keep us home.

(second refrain)

LOL! I love it, Londis. Sure would love to hear the melody. You outta git a recorder and then take it to someone who can write the notes for ya! Good luck! I enjoyed!

Absolutely amazing, Lonny, how the bluegrass beat lends itself to a rollicking, rolling along poem! (em.. hold on a sec, I have to stop my foot from tapping.. silly foot!).. ok, there we are.. now, then.. it's a damned fun piece here.. Jaysus, I've heard of people "branching out" but you're a whole "artsy" tree, dearie. Poetry, stories, pictures, songs... and equally adept at them all, I'd say! Personally, I stay harmonious with myself because Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata can collapse me to the floor, but I also jump up and shuffle myself around to "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose It's Flavor On The Bedpost Overnight!" (Don't be whispering the name Earl Scruggs in her ear, even in jest... not even in jest! LOL). Carry on, Lonny, my little loon! hehe..If it's all in the rhythm and rhyme, you're a HIT! . katy xox.
