Vocal Cords
By Handsum-Hart

Upon her pillowy heart
I put to bed, my polished mind.
And slipped into
A diamond dream.
Off I went
To the jeweled entrance
Of eternity.
And left my vocal cords
Bronzed in gold
Hanging from the Pearly Gates.
To be used as the trumpet
That announces
Her arrival into heaven.

With tender throat
From this dream, I awoke.
And when I searched
For my voice
I found it not.
With might did my soul rejoice.
Because now
Only through my heart
Could I talk to her.
Using the long
And short patterns
Of my heartbeat
As the Morse code of love.
