Caressing Angels Wings

There is a life after this

I have twice entered this bliss

During a day surgery that went terribly awry

I caressed Angels wings as I past and stopped by

A peace like no other I have felt in this life

I saw no bright light and felt no strife

There was nothing to fear

Until the nurse appeared

She would scream my name

So I awoke to the same ole pain

My chest felt like I had been run over by a truck

From CPR (before the paddles) I was struck

They called it a thump to restart my heart

Now I lay in ICU where three Doctor’s review my chart

Later that night I caressed the Angels wings again

And I summoned my Mom to call family and friends

One last chance to tell them how I felt,   before I ascend

My lungs were full and I thought I would drown

When I opened my eyes in bed my three Doctors were around

I reached out my hand and made my final plea

“Please do something I can’t fight anymore,   can’t you see?”

I was told,   “These are my friends and we are going to save you.”

The pulmonologist Dr. Plumpy knew exactly what to do

And the cardiologist with the South African accent worked diligently to pull me through

The next morning I awoke to the sunrise

And actually appreciated nurse (Hercules) to my surprise

I was given a second chance at life to make a difference in this world

A new insight of hopes and dreams began to unfurl

I know there will come a time when Angels wings I again will caress

And I will leave this life with no duress.

We only live once…make it count!
