Lets get on with life,
But honor the dead...

Poem Artwork

Three years ago…

Not here am I to expound,

Nor will I bore you with philosophy so profound,

I am here merely to elucidate,

And explain, what a very special upcoming date,

Does mean to me & I will try not to confound…

Three years ago in September,

Our country and its people did suffer,

A tremendous sorrow,

One that did hopefully make us tougher,

But we did not change; we should not have done so,

That would have been seen to be a weakness…

Our lives they did go on,

Even for those of us who lost on that day,

Someone special, a mother, a sister, a father, a brother,

                           A husband or wife…

No money can bring them back, although some believe it can,

Money is the end all of every human interaction or so it seems,

Many are still “entombed” under piles of rubble,

Now being used as foundations for future trouble…

Enough has been said; herein I do end this rant,

Our lives supposedly changed that day,

Only those that lost do really remember, or so it seems,

This survivor does tell you and does so with all due honesty,

That day is over; we try not to let it happen again,

Alerts, yellow, orange, red, maybe they work, then again…

Let it pass, but remember those still attached to that place of destruction,

Maybe they are still there, spirits of the dead,

Living their lives they lost, but now through their heads…

KEEP PEACE IN YOUR HEARTS…!

Oh, my dear friend... you suffered the loss of your dear wife and for you, this is a day of pain beyond what I can understand. Your poem is brave and true and so accessible to us all. I know you don't wish to dwell on your own loss that day, but you will always have a place to go, should you just want to let it out. We are friends. katy xox.

Truly wishing you peace in your heart, my friend; and although I can never truly put myself in your place, or in any of the other survivors places, or even experience a tad of what this day means to you and the others, I salute you for this write, and God Bless.

River of Memories: An Appalachian Boyhood by David Thompson

For a time, I perched myself on a flat rock, comparing my life with the Guyandotte River. Just as its tributaries replenish it daily, changing it in some small—sometimes great—degree, so have the day-to-day occurrences of life changed me. Like the ri
