Mercy Hospital in Sea Isle City, NJ

Poem Artwork

Sea Isle city born and raised,

Sounds as if on the beach I did graze,

Through school there I went, lousy grades,

The hospital where I was born,

Down it has been torn…

Few trees to climb,

We made up our own rhyme,

War games and shoot em’ ups,

From childhood through puberty,

Finally did I reach my prime…

Dad did think I would never grow up,

Mom did shelter me since I was a young pup,

Never knew of the outside world,

Never knew of fear, a burden quite clear…

Wrapped in Sea Isle’s cocoon,

Surfed & swam each and every summer afternoon,

Played amongst the high dune,

I recall my days at fifteen in a commune…

Sea Isle. Cool town. Raised on a beach, huh? Explains your coolness. :-) ~~Nordette

Good writing. I spent half of my life inland, and half of my life on the ocean...have to say, I choose the ocean.

Sounds like you had it made Ed! Of course we never know how good we had it until we've had it bad, so it's good we can recall the memories. Nice one!

Eileen

River of Memories: An Appalachian Boyhood by David Thompson
