Many a life I have seen snuffed out,

Heard did I the cries during the rout,

Heard others on a soapbox as they did spout,

They liked to think but they did not have clout…

A shiv fashioned from a toothbrush handle,

Screwdrivers sharpened to a finely honed point,

Spoon handles made into weapons of death,

Never seen it but heard of death by candle…

Hand to hand combat taught,

Had to do so if ever one has fought,

Bare hands, no weapon needed,

Did not matter the weapon or none,

Just as dead they ended life’s fun…

Isn't it a shame that our society is such, that some have to learn these things as a way of life, that mostly ends in death. Sad thoughts Ed. don't let Rufuz read this one;-)...Eileen

You're entitled to die once...many live death over and over. Keep that wisdom.
You don't grow old being a fool.

River of Memories: An Appalachian Boyhood by David Thompson

For a time, I perched myself on a flat rock, comparing my life with the Guyandotte River. Just as its tributaries replenish it daily, changing it in some small—sometimes great—degree, so have the day-to-day occurrences of life changed me. Like the ri
