She was a lady in her, I guess, sixties,
I can barely recall now that I am in my fifties,
But I know she was the nicest to us kids,
She sold penny candy & stuff, no fibs…
I remember those dot candies on paper,
And wax bottles filled with sugar water,
And jaw breakers that did just that,
She sold to every son and daughter,
I don’t remember that candy ever making us fat…
Her store was a block from my house,
On the main street Landis Ave,
That was back when Sea Isle was still nice,
No condo’s, just nice family homes,
Quiet in winter months, places to roam,
Busier in summer, still everything cost a low price…

good walk down Memory Lane - our store was Deiner's - a veritable Candy Cornicopia!
HOMEMADE: peanut butter pinwheels, candy sweet potatoes, pulled taffy, Jordan almonds, chocolates, plus all the normal trademarked goodies.

I will have to admit that this is one of your best. great memories; and they're the kind that everyone that used to be a kid can relate too. Well done brother!

Nice write!
You bring back memories of our own candy store - the convenience shop 'round the corner - when penny candy really WAS - thanks. :) And now everything good is bad for you - sad.
